The Client: TBD! This house on a lake in the Catskills is on the market looking for new owners, so we used our imagination.

The Brief: Bring this charming mid-century lake house into a new era without losing its authentic details and mint condition original finishes.

The house brought me back to my childhood in all the best ways. With a great flow for entertaining or easy family living and contrary to the frequent inclination to make spaces neutral, we focused on adding MORE.

Layered pattern and color in the living spaces make the rooms lively and welcoming, while lightly refreshing key finishes in the kitchen and bathrooms improve functionality and elevate comfort.

Color drenched tile installations, original appliances in a fantastic butter yellow, variegated stone flooring, and vintage wood paneling all stayed (see the top pic!). Wallpaper, a new wood burning stove, and knotty pine custom millwork fully embraced the late mid-century vibe.

Inspiration: 70’s era Laurel Canyon. Alpine rusticity. Paint by number art kits.

The Result: A house that retains its history, while taking a leap forward in personality for a new chapter.
