Nineties Kitchen Refresh | Pennsylvania | Poconos
The Client: A couple entering retirement years seeks feel more at home in their new, more contemporary residence.
The Brief: Many design projects are prompted by change. These clients moved to a golf course community from their historic home of 30 years to meet their need for single story living. Their new property was built in the early 1990s and functioned well, but the finishes were both dated and didn’t fit the clients’ preferred style.
We started in the kitchen and determined which elements could stay - white cabinetry, layout, tile flooring - then layered in new complementary finishes, fixtures, wall paper, and lighting to push the design in a more traditional direction. We also replaced all the appliances with upgraded models and reconfigured small sections of the cabinetry to add a double oven without losing important storage space. Lighting, materials, and visual contrast were carefully considered to support aging in place.
Inspiration: English cottage garden florals. William Morris prints. Water color landscape paintings.
The Result: A house that feels more like home and a kitchen that adds a fresh, graceful note to daily life.
